July 17 -18 – Back on the trail at Etna

Back on the trail at Etna Pass. After a restful day in Dunsmuir, we called our trail angles to catch a ride to Etna. This jump over the climb out of Castle Crag was done because we thought the lack of water for the first 13 miles combined with the climb might be too much for us at this time. In hindsight, we could have done this section. But, in jumping up to Etna, I got to experience the Marble Mountains, an area Karen had hiked several times with her family and our trail angles.

We are already planning our return in 2017 to explore this area, starting at Etna Pass and heading south to Castle Crag. Right at 100 miles, we will take two weeks to hike this, stopping at some lakes along the way.
