Update July 28, 2016 – The adventure came to an end on July 25. We ended our hike in Seiad, CA after hiking over 200 miles. We skipped over a few difficult areas, the Hat Creek Flats and the climb out of Castle Crag. For us, this was the right thing to do. We hope to return next year to complete the Castle Crag leg.
Karen and I learned so much about long distant hiking during this event. The thru hikers were supportive and offered advice. We also had the opportunity to team up with Joy (trail name Poppins) during our layover in Chester. From our time with her, we grew through her experience in PCT hiking. We were so sad when an injury ended her adventure early.
To all the thru hikers, we wish you the best of luck on your journey. We appreciate your encouragement and wish we had gotten contact information for each of you . For those I know your trail names, Cam, Shae, Zigger and Perma Smile, I will try to reach out to you over the next few months. We are truly in awe on your dedication and drive.
We will be updating this site with photos and comments from our trip. Check back.

We will be hiking 437 miles along the Northern California section of the Pacific Crest Trail. Originally we were going to leave from Donner Pass (mile 1157.1) but we heard reports of heavy snow in the area and chose to move our starting point north 127 miles to Belden (mile1284.4). Here is a link to our plan: Craig’s PCT Planner_ View Plan.

Track our hike. This link will take you to a web page that will plot our progress in near real time. Once an hour, our position will be relayed via the Iridium satellite constellation and plotted on the map. The map has a dotted red line which defined the path of the PCT. We will also be able to send messages that will be posted. Our contact team have the ability to send messages to us. And most importantly, there is a SOS button to send out a call for help. All messages have our position included.
If you feel it is necessary to send a message, use the contact form to request a message be sent. We have asked our team to filter the messages and only send ones we need, or combine multiple messages into one or two.
